For customers who would otherwise be unable to afford the type of vehicle they need, Motability UK may be able to offer financial help. This could include the Advance Payment for a car, adaptations, driving lessons or a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV).

To be eligible to join the Motability Scheme, you need to receive one of the following disability benefits and you must have at least 12 months’ award length remaining. Please note that the Attendance Allowance cannot be used to lease a car through the Scheme.

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA)
  • Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)
  • War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

If your benefit is not renewed during the lease period on your chosen model, then you will have to return it when your allowance ends. It's also possible to apply on the behalf of a child aged three or older, as long as they are entitled to the Higher Mobility component of the DLA. There are no medical assessments for the scheme, and you can choose a vehicle straight away without being placed on a waiting list.

All vehicles are provided fully taxed and insured, and every manufacturer and dealer will offer you a reassuringly high level of cover.

To guarantee that your Motability Scheme car is perfect for you, the majority of adaptations can be made to the model at no extra charge. You can also name up to two drivers for your chosen car for free – another person nominated can drive the car if you don't want to or are unable to.

Whilst you remain on the scheme, you are guaranteed a brand new car every three years or a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) every five years, full breakdown assistance, and free repairs for your windscreen and tyres.

We aim to make it a stress-free experience for you. We understand that sometimes the application process may seem daunting, so please allow us 30 minutes of your time at any of our sites to explain how we can take away any concerns.

When you join Motability through Threeways you get more than just the car of your choice, you get all the support and help you need to enjoy worry-free motoring.

All this is included:

Replace your existing car every three years

You get a brand new car every three years. We will contact you a few months before your lease expires, and if you decide to continue with Motability, you can choose a car for your next three-year contract (provided you are still eligible).

Servicing and maintenance

All of your regular servicing and maintenance is included and taken care of by your dealer. So you’ll have no unexpected repair bills with your Motability car. We even contact you when it’s time for service.

Insurance

The worry-free package provides similar cover to what you would expect under a fully comprehensive insurance policy. You can still lease a car even if you don’t drive, you simply nominate two drivers who can drive on your behalf. And if you decide to leave Motability at a later stage, you can request a letter confirming your claims history to take to your new insurer.

Full RAC breakdown assistance

The RAC Motability Assist helpline and roadside staff are specially trained to handle your calls and are available on 0800 73 111 73, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Assistance is provided for recovery, either at the roadside or at home.

Annual vehicle tax

The full cost of annual vehicle tax fund licence is included within the scheme under the initial provision of a tax exemption certificate.

Window and windscreen repair or replacement

Should anything happen to your windows or windscreen you can get them repaired or replaced at no extra cost.

Replacement tyres fitted by Kwik Fit

For no extra cost Kwik Fit will replace tyres worn or damaged by normal use. They also provide a mobile service so your tyres can be replaced for no extra cost at your home or work.

60,000 mileage allowance over three years

You get 60,000 mileage allowance over three years with cars. However, if the total mileage is higher than the allowance when you return the car, there is a charge of 5p for every additional mile.

Many adaptations at no extra cost

If you need adaptations to make your car easier, safer or simply more comfortable to use, you’ll be pleased to know that many of the most popular ones are now available at no additional cost.

Many cars with no Advance Payment

Motability offers a huge range of cars to choose from, suiting all needs and budgets. Many cars cost no more than your weekly allowance – some even cost less than your allowance, giving you money back to spend as you wish. You can increase your choice of cars even further by topping up your allowance with an upfront payment, or what we call an ‘Advance Payment.’

The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to lease a new car by exchanging their Government funded mobility allowance. If you receive either the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance, the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) , the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS) or the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) you may be eligible to join the Motability Scheme.

1. Select your new vehicle To make it easier to find a vehicle that meets your needs, please speak to our trained specialists who will ‘best match’ your specific requirements to the new car you desire. When considering your new vehicle, there is a lot to consider, including cost, suitability and fuel consumption. You can discuss your preferred options with a fully trained Motability specialist and arrange a test drive. We will also discuss whether optional extras or adaptations might help make driving easier or more comfortable.
2. Placing your order for your new vehicle Once you have decided which vehicle is right for you, your Motability specialist will complete your order with you using our simple online system. We will then send you an acceptance letter containing your Personal Identification Number (keep this safe as you need it to collect your vehicle). Before making your final decision it’s worth discussing with us the expected delivery time for your new car as this can vary from model to model. It could take a few weeks, but please stay in touch with your Motability specialist in case there are delays.
For customers who would otherwise be unable to afford the type of vehicle they need, Motability UK may be able to offer financial help. This could include the Advance Payment for a car, adaptations, driving lessons or a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV).

We may be able to support you by:

  • Advising you about cars and adaptations that would meet your needs; some of which may be available at a low Advance Payment
  • Arranging a lease extension on your current Motability car if it is still suitable
  • Arranging a mobility or driving assessment to find out exactly what you need
  • Considering an application for financial help towards the solution that meets your needs*

If Motability UK is able to provide financial help, you are expected to contribute as much as you can afford towards a vehicle solution that will meet your mobility needs. There is a lot of demand for financial help and they try to ensure that the available money is used to help as many people as possible to become or remain mobile.

What can Motability give financial help towards?

  • Advance Payments on standard production cars. This is the one-off upfront payment on a car
  • Adaptations such as swivel seats and wheelchair hoists. More basic adaptations, such as hand controls, pedal modifications and steering wheel balls are available free of charge through our Motability Managed Adaptations Programme (MMAP).
  • Driving lessons: if you are a Motability customer aged between 16 and 29, you may be eligible for help towards the cost of lessons.
  • Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) for customers who wish to get in a car while remaining seated in their wheelchair, whether as a driver or passenger. Applications for these vehicles can, in some cases, take a little longer and may require a mobility assessment to fully understand your needs.

What is the Motability Scheme?

The Motability Scheme is a government-supported program that allows people with disabilities to use their mobility allowance to lease a car, scooter, or powered wheelchair. The scheme is operated by Motability Operations, a not-for-profit organisation that works with car manufacturers, dealerships, and other partners. The goal of the scheme is to help people with disabilities get around more easily, safely, and independently.

How does the Motability Scheme work?

To join the Motability Scheme, you need to have a qualifying mobility allowance, such as the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance, the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment, or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement. You can then use all or part of your allowance to lease a vehicle through the scheme.

The lease includes insurance, maintenance, and breakdown cover, so you don't have to worry about those costs. You can also choose to have adaptations made to the vehicle to make it more accessible, such as hand controls, swivel seats, or wheelchair hoists. At the end of the lease period, which is typically three years, you can either return the vehicle or choose to lease a new one.

Who is eligible for the Motability Scheme?

To be eligible for the Motability Scheme, you must be in receipt of a qualifying mobility allowance and have at least 12 months of your allowance remaining. You can apply if you're aged 16 or over and meet the eligibility criteria for the relevant allowance. If you're not able to drive, you can nominate up to two other people to drive for you, such as a family member, friend, or carer.

What are the benefits of the Motability Scheme?

The Motability Scheme has several benefits for people with disabilities, including:

  • Access to a wider range of vehicles than you might be able to afford otherwise
  • A fixed-price lease that includes insurance, maintenance, and breakdown cover
  • Adaptations to the vehicle to suit your needs
  • The ability to nominate up to two other drivers
  • The option to lease a new vehicle every three years

What are the drawbacks of the Motability Scheme?

There are some potential drawbacks to the Motability Scheme, including:

  • You need to have a qualifying mobility allowance to join the scheme
  • You need to have at least 12 months of your allowance remaining
  • There may be a waiting list for some vehicles or adaptations
  • You can only use the vehicle for personal use, not for business or commercial purposes
  • If you need to make changes to the lease or return the vehicle early, there may be fees involved

How do I apply for the Motability Scheme?

To apply for the Motability Scheme, you can visit the Motability website or contact the Motability Operations customer service team. You'll need to provide some basic information about yourself, your disability, and your mobility allowance. You may also need to undergo a credit check, as the lease is a finance agreement.

Sorry there are no results for that search.
